Phillies Announce Trea Turner, Alec Bohm Update Ahead of Royals Matchup
đ Philadelphia, PA â September 14, 2025
As the Philadelphia Phillies inch closer to clinching the NL East, the team delivered a crucial injury update on two of its cornerstone infieldersâTrea Turner and Alec Bohmâjust hours before their weekend clash with the Kansas City Royals.
Manager Rob Thomson addressed reporters Saturday afternoon, confirming that Turner, sidelined with a Grade 1 right hamstring strain sustained last Sunday against Miami, has resumed light baseball activities. The 32-year-old shortstop participated in pool running and played catch, marking his first steps toward a full recovery. The team anticipates Turner could begin swinging the bat as early as Sunday or Monday.
Turnerâs absence has been felt across the lineup. In 140 games this season, heâs posted a National League-best .305 batting average, alongside 15 home runs and 36 stolen bases. His defensive prowess and speed have been central to Philadelphiaâs success, making his return a top priority as the postseason looms.
Meanwhile, Alec Bohm, whoâs been managing left shoulder inflammation, is also trending upward. Thomson noted that Bohm is âfeeling much betterâ and may begin hitting off a tee imminently. Though this marks his second stint on the injured list this season, the team expects him to return next week, having only been placed on the IL for the minimum ten days.
Bohm has appeared in 111 games this year, batting .272 with a .703 OPS. While his offensive numbers have dipped slightly, the Phillies attribute the decline to his ongoing battle with injuries.
With utilityman Edmundo Sosa also day-to-day due to a groin issue, the Philliesâ infield depth is being tested. In response, the club has called up Otto Kemp and Donovan Walton from Triple-A Lehigh Valley to fill the roster gaps.
As the Phillies prepare for a deep October run, the health of Turner and Bohm remains pivotal. Saturdayâs update offers a dose of optimism for fans hoping to see their stars back in action before the postseason begins.
